About us


Led by the assistant dean of external relations, the external and media relations team at the Colorado School of Public Health advances the school’s mission by building new partnerships, guiding community relations strategies, and leading communications with local and national media. This office also enhances the school's visibility at multiple levels through meaningful collaborations with various partners, government agencies, and media relations. Key priorities include advancing legislative initiatives, fostering partnerships with public health organizations, and overseeing strategic programs like rural and Latino public health initiatives. Additionally, the team provides leadership for the school’s external advisory board, ensuring alignment with institutional goals. Through a comprehensive approach to advocacy, public relations, and strategic communications, this office solidifies ColoradoSPH’s role as a public health leader in the Rocky Mountain Region and beyond.

Travis Leiker MPA

Assistant Dean of External Relations
In his new role as Assistant Dean of External Relations, Travis manages and enhances the school’s relationships with external constituents, including the private sector, government agencies, community organizations, philanthropic supporters, alumni, and more. Travis came to ColoradoSPH from the CU Anschutz Advancement Office, where he served most recently as Senior Director of Development. He has been a member of the CU Anschutz campus community for a decade, holding leadership posts in both alumni relations and development. During his time in the Office of Advancement, Travis led a team of development professionals responsible for more than $30 million in public-private-philanthropic partnerships benefitting the CU System. He was also the campus’ primary advancement partner in the efforts to pass Colorado Senate Bill 22-172, which established the early phase of the state’s Rural Health-Care Workforce Initiative. In recent years, he helped refine financial management strategies for more than $25 million in funding, expanded campus capacity to invest in EDI initiatives and scholarships, boosted faculty support for programs like pediatric hematology and nurse education, and built stronger relationships with health sciences alumni throughout the U.S. Other professional experience includes work in local and state policy making, civic engagement, and issue-based advocacy work. Travis holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public administration. Both are from the University of Colorado.
