Committees & Councils

The Alumni Engagement Committee is made up of representatives from all three campuses of the ColoradoSPH and works to inform alumni events and engagement programming in collaboration with the CU Anschutz Alumni Affairs team, and the ColoradoSPH Office of Admissions & Student Affairs, along with all departments in the school.

The committee shall have full authority, under the rules for admission prescribed by the Voting Faculty, to develop policies and procedures for admissions to the programs of the Colorado School of Public Health, to select members of the entering professional degree programs, and other rights and duties as specified in the Committee Policies and Procedures. The committee will be composed of persons who represent the range of disciplines, institutions and students served by ColoradoSPH, as defined in the Committee Policies and Procedures. The Appointments, Promotions and Tenure Committee shall be responsible for: reviewing nominations for appointment, reappointment, promotion or Tenure at the Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor ranks; for making recommendations to the Dean to support or reject such nominations; for establishing and coordinating the work of the Tenure Review Committee; for reviewing and updating the Appointments, Promotion and Tenure policies and criteria; and for assuring compliance with policies and procedures of the collaborating Universities. The committee will be broadly representative of the constituencies affected by the Committee's work, as defined in the Committee Policies and Procedures. (Colorado School of Public Health Bylaws)

The ColoradoSPH Awards Committee is responsible for the process that allows for the creation, approval and selection of specific student, staff, faculty, alumni and community recognition awards. The Awards Committee has been in place since the beginning of the ColoradoSPH in 2008. There are a variety of awards that are recognized at the University, School and Department levels. Awards are announced throughout the year, most often during the May Awards Brunch (on or near graduation commencement celebration) and the fall Public Health in the Rockies conference. The committee is composed of persons who represent the range of disciplines, institutions and students served by the school.

The Education and Curriculum Committee shall be responsible for the overall design, implementation, evaluation and ongoing development of the curriculum for the School as defined in the Committee Policies and Procedures. The committee will be composed of persons who represent the range of disciplines, institutions and students served by the School, as defined in the Committee Policies and Procedures.

The Executive Council is one of two major administrative bodies defined within the school's bylaws, the other being Faculty Senate. The Executive Council addresses senior and strategic matters affecting the school's operations, obligations and external relationships; and provides recommendations to the Dean and the Faculty Senate on matters affecting faculty, educational programs and curriculum.

Council membership includes ColoradoSPH deans, department chairs, directors from each center, and campus and administrative unit leaders within the school.

ColoradoSPH personnel and students may request the Executive Council to consider a policy matter or proposal by submitting an agenda request to the Dean's Executive Assistant.

The Faculty Equity Committee shall provide oversight, review, and make recommendations to achieve and maintain equity among faculty. The committee investigates faculty equity with respect to salary and other compensation, teaching and service assignments, appointments to rank and track, promotion, retention, and other factors of importance. The committee recommends initiatives to promote faculty equity to the Dean, Associate and Assistant Deans, and Department Chairs. The Committee will be broadly representative of the constituencies affected by the Committee’s work, as defined in the Committee’s policies and procedures. The committee reports to the Faculty Senate and is advisory to the Dean, the Associate Dean for Faculty, Department Chairs, and Center Directors. The Associate Dean for Faculty and the Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are ex officio, non-voting members of the Committee.

The Faculty Senate provides representation for the faculty of the Colorado School of Public Health, including those based at the lead and partner institutions. Faculty Senate presents the issues and concerns of the faculty and seeks action when required; provides a representative group with which others can communicate issues or new initiatives to the faculty; makes recommendations to the Dean and Executive Council on matters of educational, scholarly, clinical, and designated administrative issues in the school -- with the exception of recommendations for faculty personnel actions, student promotions and honors, and student and faculty disciplinary actions.

The purpose of this group is to promote inclusive excellence across the school’s climate, curriculum, research, and practice. Members of this group work within their spheres of influence to achieve goals outlined in the group’s strategic plan, such as increasing focus on health equity and disparities in coursework, provision of trainings for faculty, staff, and students to expand cultural competence, and fostering an inclusive campus climate. This group has members from school leadership, faculty, staff, and students across all three campuses, and welcomes new members regularly.

The Public Health Practice (PHP) Committee oversees efforts to establish and work toward the School’s priorities related to PHP. It reports to the Faculty Senate and is advisory to the Dean and the Associate Dean for PHP. It shall investigate opportunities for expanding the PHP efforts of faculty and students and make recommendations regarding PHP priorities and future directions. The Committee has full authority over activities specified in the Committee’s policies and procedures, as approved by Faculty Senate. The Committee shall be broadly representative of the constituencies affected by the Committee’s work, as defined in the Committee’s policies and procedures. The Associate Dean for Public Health Practice is an ex officio, non-voting member of the Committee.

The Research Committee shall provide oversight, review and recommendations about the development, progress and priorities for research conducted by the faculty and students of the School in an advisory capacity to the Associate Dean for Research and to the Faculty Senate. It also investigates new public health research areas and makes recommendations concerning research priorities for the School, identifies new sources of funding and novel funding approaches, and makes recommendations to the Dean regarding policies for the distribution of research funding and indirect cost allocations. The committee shall be broadly representative of the constituencies affected by the Committee’s work, as defined in the Committee Policies and Procedures.

The Scholarships Committee is charged with developing procedures for awarding scholarships to students; reviewing applications for scholarships; selecting scholarship recipients; and initiating publicity regarding scholarships. The committee is broadly representative of those constituencies within and served by the School.

ColoradoSPH Staff & PRA Council is an open group where staff and professional research assistants can convene and participate in leadership, while elevating the role of staff in the school, staff expertise, and the importance of staff in fulfilling the school's mission and vision.

The Staff & PRA Council serves to:​

• ​Convene staff and allow for crossover of ideas and skills
• Champion the issues and concerns of the staff and seek action when required
• Provide a representative group with which others can communicate issues or new initiatives to the staff
• Make recommendations to the Dean and Executive Council on administrative issues in the school
