About us


Led by the assistant dean of external relations, the external and media relations team at the Colorado School of Public Health advances the school’s mission by building new partnerships, guiding community relations strategies, and leading communications with local and national media. This office also enhances the school's visibility at multiple levels through meaningful collaborations with various partners, government agencies, and media relations. Key priorities include advancing legislative initiatives, fostering partnerships with public health organizations, and overseeing strategic programs like rural and Latino public health initiatives. Additionally, the team provides leadership for the school’s external advisory board, ensuring alignment with institutional goals. Through a comprehensive approach to advocacy, public relations, and strategic communications, this office solidifies ColoradoSPH’s role as a public health leader in the Rocky Mountain Region and beyond.

Travis Leiker serves as the Assistant Dean of External Relations at the Colorado School of Public Health, where he oversees and enhances the school’s relationships with a wide range of external partners, including the private sector, government agencies, community organizations, media, and allied public health associations and professionals.

In addition to his external relations role, Travis is the program lead on a number of strategic initiatives, including advancing rural public health efforts, developing funding streams for scholarships and student support, rebuilding the Latino public health initiative, and developing innovative programs in collaboration with the Dean and campus leadership. These initiatives reflect his and the school’s commitment to addressing critical public health challenges and fostering equitable access to education and services.

Travis brings over a decade of experience from the CU Anschutz campus community. Most recently, he served as Senior Director of Development in the CU Anschutz Advancement Office. During his tenure, he led a team that secured more than $35 million in public-private-philanthropic partnerships for the CU System. He played a key role in advancing Colorado’s Rural Health-Care Workforce Initiative and helped refine financial strategies for $25 million in philanthropic assets while expanding support for EDI initiatives, scholarships, faculty development and research.

Travis’ career also includes extensive work in community relations, local and state policymaking, civic engagement, and issue-based advocacy in the women’s rights and environmental conservation sectors. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Colorado.
