Residency & Fellowship Applicants

Submit two official copies of all academic transcripts (including institutions from which a degree was not received, e.g., for premedical, summer, year abroad, and other transfer courses) mailed directly from the institution to the MPH program coordinator. For practicum-only applicants, one copy of all academic transcripts, mailed directly from the institution to the residency program coordinator.​

Applicants must have obtained a passing grade on the USMLE Step 2 and Step 3 or COMLEX Level 2 and Level 3 examination activities prior to admission.

Please submit your official USMLE, COMLEX, or ECFMG Transcripts.

Applicants for the Occupational & Environmental Medicine Residency must possess an MD degree from an LCME-accredited medical school within the United States, Puerto Rico, or Canada, or hold a DO degree from an AOA-accredited school of osteopathy, or hold an ECFMG certificate which will be valid on the day training begins. Graduates of Canadian schools must hold an LMCC Certificate.

We do not offer the clinical year, hence all applicants must have completed at least one clinical year (and preferably have completed clinical training) in an ACGME-accredited or AOA-accredited residency training program. Please note that clinical externships, clinical research, and training outside of the United States will not meet this requirement.

Four letters of recommendation from professors, supervisors, or individuals qualified to comment on past performance and ability to perform graduate work and preventive medicine training. A Dean’s Letter from your medical school may substitute for one letter of recommendation.  If you are currently an intern or resident in a clinical training program, one letter must be from your program director.  If you are not currently an intern or resident, then one letter from your most recent program director is required.  The letter from your current or most recent program director must document your clinical experience, evaluations, and standing in the program at the time of graduation or withdrawal.​

Residents in our program must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, asylees, or possess the appropriate documentation to allow residents to legally train at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

Offers of employment are contingent upon the individual passing the necessary background check. The CU Anschutz Medical Campus conducts criminal background checks on all new hires, including residents. Candidates will be sent a consent form allowing us to do the background check with the packet of GME information in the spring.

A personal interview is required for all finalists.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Applicants must have obtained a passing grade on the USMLE Step 2 or COMLEX Part 2 examination activities prior to admission. It is also preferred that applicants have passed the USMLE Step 3 or COMLEX Part 3 examination activities prior to admission. If Step/Part 3 has not been passed, residents will be required to do so as soon as possible after acceptance. Please submit your official USMLE or ECFMG Transcripts through ERAS.

Applicants are required to be: (1) graduates from a medical school in the United States or Canada, accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or, (2) graduates from a college of osteopathic medicine in the United States, accredited by the American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation.

Graduates from a medical school outside of the United States or Canada must meet one of the following additional qualifications: (1) holding a currently valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) prior to admission; or, (2) holding a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in Colorado.

• Documentation of clinical competency can be demonstrated by submitting one of the following, through ERAS if possible:
• Copy of ACGME, CanMEDS, or ACGME-I Milestones evaluations from the prior training program.
• Copy of board certification in a clinical specialty (e.g., pediatrics, surgery, medicine, family medicine, ob/gyn, physical medicine & rehabilitation) or in occupational or aerospace medicine;
• Copy of certificate attesting successful completion of an internship or residency in a clinical specialty (e.g., Pediatrics, surgery, medicine, family medicine, ob/gyn, physical medicine & rehabilitation) or a residency in occupational or aerospace medicine;
• A letter from a program director or other institutional official verifying successful completion of an internship or residency in a clinical specialty (e.g., pediatrics, surgery, medicine, family medicine, ob/gyn) or a residency in occupational or aerospace medicine;
• A letter from a program director or other institutional official, verifying successful completion of an internship or residency, regardless of specialty, that documents at least 10 months of direct clinical care, in inpatient and outpatient settings, either by so stating in the letter or by attaching a list or schedule of successfully completed rotations;
• A letter from a program director or other institutional official, verifying successful completion of at least 12 months of residency training that documents at least 10 months of direct clinical care in inpatient and outpatient settings, either by so stating in the letter or by attaching a list or schedule of successfully completed rotations.

All applicants must have completed an ACGME-accredited residency training program and must be board certified, or have documented plans to sit for the examination. Please note that AOA-accredited programs, clinical externships, clinical research, and training outside of the United States will not meet this requirement.
