MPH Applicants

Bachelor's degree requirement

You must have received a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.* Additionally, you must submit official transcripts to SOPHAS from every institution you have attended.

*You may apply in the final year of your bachelor’s program. You will need to submit your final transcript (degree conferred) prior to enrollment in the Colorado School of Public Health.

Transcripts from non-US colleges/universities

Applicants must have all degree-bearing transcripts from any non-US colleges or universities they have attended evaluated by World Education Services. We do not currently accept transcript evaluations from any other service. 

Study abroad transcripts

The Colorado School of Public Health DOES require study abroad transcripts, however unofficial copies are accepted. Please either upload in “optional documents” in your SOPHAS application or email unofficial study abroad transcripts to: ColoradoSPH.admissions@cuanschutz.edu.  

The Colorado School of Public Health has a preferred minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. It is recommended that applicants utilize their personal statement to highlight key academic successes and address any areas of concern or growth.

Please note: admission into the school is based on a holistic review process and all applications are welcome.

Your statement should be two pages in length, single-spaced, and should address the following:

• reasons for interest in public health and this program of study
• reasons for interest in the Colorado School of Public Health
• career goals
• your academic preparation including a highlight of your written and quantitative abilities. If your concentration has specific requirements or preferred qualifications, please address how your previous coursework/experiences fulfill them.

Preferred qualifications

• Successful completion of at least two or more college-level math/statistics courses
• Experience with statistical computing programs (e.g. R, SAS, SPSS, Stata)
• One letter of recommendation from a faculty member who can attest to your quantitative readiness

Preferred qualifications

• Strong analytic and written communication skills
• One year of practical experience (e.g., internships, paid work experiences, or volunteering)

Preferred qualifications

• Strong desire to engage with and learn from communities
• Previous coursework related to public health, community health, education, statistics, health science and/or behavioral science is desirable
• Community health related volunteer and work experience

Required

• Background in health or natural sciences with a science GPA of 3.0 or better

Preferred qualifications

• Previous coursework in chemistry, biology, statistics, and/or geographic information systems
• One year of professional experience (internships, paid work experience, Peace Corps volunteer)
• Strong analytic and writing skills

Required

• Evidence of analytic/quantitative abilities by presenting at least one of the following:
  • Academic background in health, public health, or natural sciences with a math/science GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Written product from a professional experience demonstrating analytic/quantitative skill
  • Letter(s) of recommendation that gives specific examples of applicant’s analytic/quantitative abilities

Preferred qualifications

• Previous coursework in chemistry, biology, statistics, or math is strongly recommended

Required

• Proficiency in arithmetic, algebra, and geometry

Preferred qualifications

• Previous experience with quantitative reasoning, data analysis, and/or statistics
• Strong analytical writing and verbal communication skills
• Experience with healthcare and/or public health programs and policies

Preferred qualifications

• Professional experience commensurate with this leadership concentration

Preferred qualifications

• Previous experience in the field of maternal and child health (either paid and/or volunteer) is desirable. 
• Previous coursework in human development or child development is preferred but not required.

Preferred qualifications

• Previous coursework in psychology, public health, social work, or related fields
• Previous mental health work experience (paid or volunteer)
• Strong written communication skills
