Laura Jean Podewils, PhD, (she/her/hers) is the Associate Director of Learning Health Systems and Evaluation in the Office of Research at Denver Health, where she manages a team of biostatisticians, epidemiologists, data analysts and research associates. Dr. Podewils holds a PhD in Epidemiology and served 15 years working as a senior epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention before joining Denver Health in 2018. Her expertise and experience includes global health and epidemiologic and health systems research. Her research focuses on addressing social and structural barriers to health, including housing and food insecurity, barriers related to identity, language, culture and justice involvement, and mental health and substance use. Dr. Podewils provides mentorship and support to MPH, MPH/MSW, DrPH and PhD students at the Colorado School of Public Health to complete practicum projects, internships, capstone projects, and dissertations.
