Richard C. Lindrooth, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Health Systems, Management and Policy in the Colorado School of Public Health at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The unifying thread of his research is the application of the tools of applied econometrics to understand the impact of policies and organizational structures on health care access, spending, and quality with the goal of providing evidence to improve health policy and the value of health care. He was awarded the 2007 Charles E. Gibbs Leadership Prize for best policy paper in Women’s Health Issues for his research on the relationship between Medicaid family planning expansions and Medicaid cost-savings related to births averted. He has received national and local recognition for his dedication to mentoring. He was awarded the inaugural American Society of Health Economists Mentoring Award in 2024; the Dean’s Masters Mentoring Award from the Graduate School at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and the Faculty Excellence in Mentoring from the Colorado School of Public Health in 2019. He currently teaches Health Services Research Methods, Research Design and Proposal Preparation, and Foundations of Health Services Research to Ph.D. students. He received his PhD and MA in Economics from the University of Washington and a BA from the University of Vermont.
