MS in Worker Health, Safety & Well-Being

The Master of Science in Worker Health, Safety and Well-Being prepares professionals to address complex workforce challenges at the intersection of occupational health, organizational systems, and worker well-being. As workplaces face increasing pressures related to mental health, chronic disease, worker injury, and evolving patterns of work, there is growing demand for leaders who can develop integrated, evidence-based solutions that support both worker and organizational health.

Grounded in Total Worker Health®, this interdisciplinary program expands traditional occupational health and safety training by aligning systems. Students gain applied skills in analyzing workforce health challenges, designing interventions, and leading coordinated strategies that improve worker outcomes and organizational performance.

Designed for both early-career and working professionals, graduates are prepared for leadership roles across industry, healthcare, government, consulting, and nonprofit sectors, including workforce health strategy, occupational health program management, environmental health and safety leadership, and return-to-work and disability management.

This program prepares you to become a leader in advancing worker health, safety, and well-being. You'll gain a strong foundation in occupational and environmental health, occupational health psychology, workplace safety and ergonomics, and evidence-based approaches that integrate health protection and health promotion. Through a balance of theory, applied practice, and research, you'll learn how to assess workplace risks, design effective interventions, and evaluate programs that support healthier, safer, and more productive work environments.

Required coursework includes public health foundations, epidemiology, data analysis, occupational health psychology, workplace health promotion and protection, occupational safety and ergonomics, and communication for public health impact. You'll also choose an elective aligned with your interests, such as mental health and well-being, substance use, health systems and policy, climate and disaster mental health, health behavior, and public health disasters.

As part of the program, you'll complete a culminating project through either an internship and scholarly practice paper or an applied research project. These experiences allow you to address real-world worker health, safety, and well-being challenges while developing skills in assessment, program design, evaluation, and/or leadership communication.
