Jon Samet HeadshotDr. Jon Samet

Jonathan Samet, MD, MS, a pulmonary physician and epidemiologist, is the former dean of the Colorado School of Public Health, serving from 2017-2023. During his tenure as dean, he led the school through the Covid-19 pandemic and advanced its reach across the state. He is now a faculty member in the Departments of Epidemiology and of Environmental and Occupational Health.

Over four decades, his research has touched on global health, tobacco control, air pollution, radiation and chronic disease prevention. His generosity towards the school has included the significant donation of artwork that hangs in the School of Public Health as well as the Centers for American Indian and Alaska Native Health. He endowed the Hamman Lectureship and in 2020, Dr. Samet and his wife Connie Brines established the Jon Samet and Connie Brines Scholarship, an endowed scholarship fund for our students.
