Lee Newman, MD, and Lori Szczukowski, MD, are passionate about high-impact healthcare projects – initiatives that swiftly make a difference in public health.
Through creating the Endowed Fund for Worker Health, Lee and Lori are providing resources to pursue new and expanded initiatives at the Center for Health, Work & Environment at the Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH).
The Center team works with faculty, students and community partners on numerous projects in occupational and environmental health, safety and well-being.
Lee is the founder and director of the Center for Health, Work & Environment and a professor in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health. He played a fundamental role in the creation of ColoradoSPH and was named a University of Colorado distinguished professor in 2019, reflecting his exceptional performance in scholarly work. His excellence in the promotion of learning and outstanding leadership and service over the past three decades have brought him international recognition.
Lori, a physician for more than three decades and a former instructor at ColoradoSPH, began her professional career in group practice as an internist in Denver, later transitioning to the field of occupational medicine. For nearly two decades, Lori’s clinical practice involved treating injured workers at Denver Health’s occupational health clinics at Denver International Airport and the Center for Occupational Safety and Health. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, she came out of retirement to help serve others.
Lee and Lori share a deep commitment to preserving the physical and emotional welfare of workers locally, nationally and internationally. Together, through a lifelong devotion to serving communities and advancing healthcare, they’ve created an enduring legacy to advancing public health.
