This study aims to longitudinally assess how cancer diagnosis impacts employment, financial, and well-being on employed Latino men treated in community- and academic-based oncology practice settings.

This project involves co-creation, implementation, and evaluation of a psychological preparedness training for the public-school workforce, complementing their current emergency preparedness plans and drills. The project also includes shared leadership and peer support components, encouraging teachers to support one another and engage with emergency preparedness planning and drills.

This project will leverage community knowledge and networks to better assess the state of mental and behavioral health among agricultural workers in the San Luis Valley of southern Colorado and identify strategies to fill gaps in available support.

The Climate, Work, & Health Initiative is an interdisciplinary group of researchers and public health practitioners whose mission is to play a proactive role in identifying and promoting climate-resilient workplaces, workforces, and communities. We are dedicated to keeping workers and their families safe, healthy, and productive by preventing and reducing health impacts from the effects of changing work environments and exposures.

In partnership with Pantaleon, a Latin American agribusiness, we have produced several practical, actionable interventions to benefit workers today, including interventions to optimize work conditions by reducing dehydration and heat stress and thereby decreasing kidney injury and CKDu among sugarcane workers

With the opioid crisis on the rise, it’s never been more important for health professionals to stay up-to-date on the latest pain management methods. To address this crisis, we launched a self-paced online course in 2012 to retrain healthcare providers on the current state and federal guidelines for non-cancer pain management. Our goal is to combat the growing opioid epidemic while providing the best care to patients.

Since 2005, faculty and staff from our center have partnered with Oak Ridge Associated Universities and the Department of Energy (DOE) to administer the National Supplemental Screening Program. This program provides free medical screenings to former DOE site workers, as part of the DOE's "Former Worker Program."

Dr. Lee Newman, our director, has researched this one element on the periodic table and its effect on worker health for more than three decades. Sadly, exposure to beryllium’s dust, even a minuscule amount, is toxic. Newman's research informed a more protective federal standard passed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in 2017.

The SSWell Study examines what small organizations are doing to support the health, safety, and well-being of their workforce, the impact on health outcomes, and how employees perceive their workplace health and safety culture.

Every year, we offer two pilot project funding opportunities designed to help early-career investigators jump-start their careers and help established researchers from other disciplines to enter the field of occupational and environmental health and safety and Total Worker Health^®.
