Educational Pathways Programs

The Center for Innovative Design & Analysis has collaborated with the Office of Undergraduate Research & Creative Activities at University of Colorado Denver (URCA) to provide a paid research opportunity for CU Denver undergraduates through the Education through Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (EURēCA!) Program. CIDA biostatisticians will train and mentor a EURēCA! Student Assistant in a hands-on data analysis built from research collaborations across the Anschutz Medical Campus. 

What you’d be doing

This work-study student will be involved in all aspects of research, including study design, data organization and checking, data analysis and formal reporting of results for publication. This individual will conduct data cleaning, run summary statistics using statistical software (typically R or SAS) and generate tables and reports of statistical results. Other activities may include literature searches, running and summarizing computer simulations, and other aspects of supporting projects in the field of biostatistics and data science. This individual may also assist with operations or data science.

Our mission is to provide mentorship and work experience for aspiring biostatisticians who have not previously had the opportunity to work on applied research projects. Students from under-represented minority (URM) backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Description  

Work side-by-side with a CIDA Biostatistician conducting data management and analysis in an applied research setting.  Our team members conduct all aspects of data analyses from data management to comprehensive reports and publication support. These projects are built from collaborations across the Anschutz Medical Campus with doctors and researchers with a wide range of expertise.   

This half-time, 12-week summer internship will allow early-career biostatisticians the opportunity to apply the data management and analysis skills they have learned from classwork in a real research setting. This valuable, hands-on experience is necessary in today’s competitive job market.

Minimum Requirements 

• Current student or recent graduate from MPH program
• Past work experience (in any area) with strong work ethic, willingness to learn and grow, ability to work with others in a team environment as well and independently.
• Coursework in statistics and statistical programming (SAS/R)

Internship objectives 

The Center for Innovative Design and Analysis (CIDA) is pleased to offer two 10-week fellowships. Students will begin with 4-weeks on campus working alongside collaborative biostatisticians at and will transition and participate in the 6-weeks CoSIBS program.  This fellowship is available for participants from underrepresented backgrounds. Learn if you meet the criteria.

Completed applications are reviewed on a rolling basis from January through March. Final decisions will be made by the end of April.

The Colorado Summer Institute in Biostatistics (CoSIBS) will soon be accepting applications for Summer 2024.

This 6-week program exposes undergraduate students and early-stage graduate students to diverse research in the medical and public health setting using a wide array of the field of biostatistics and data science. Learn more about the CoSIBS program here.  

CoSIBS Program Dates: June 24 - August 2, 2024

• Paid travel to and from Denver, room and meal stipend provides as part of CoSIBS.
