About Us

The Injury and Violence Prevention Center (IVPC) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU Anschutz) was formally established in 2021 with the vision of contributing to the significant reduction in injury and its outcomes in Colorado, the Mountain West region, and the U.S., as a function of high-quality research, education, and effective practice.

The IVPC builds off the work of the Program for Injury Prevention, Education & Research (PIPER), founded in 2011. IVPC is a collaborative initiative of the Colorado School of Public Health and the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Our core values

Advance health equity

We endorse a common goal to prevent injury and promote the health of all Coloradans and the Mountain West region among all populations. We aim to address health disparities and advance equity in populations disproportionately impacted by injury and violence.

Ethical research and practice

We view ethics as central to our research and practice activities. We view this as an ongoing process, requiring commitment from all involved to take active steps to prioritize ethical constructs such as justice and fairness as we design, conduct, and disseminate research findings, and translate research to public health practice.

Translation of research to practice

We value the bi-directional collaboration between researchers and practitioners and support research informing practice as well as practice informing research. Practice and community perspectives and experiences are essential to developing relevant research that impacts injury and violence outcomes.

Collective impact

We recognize that our impact is greater when we work collaboratively, which includes coordination and collective action with other local research centers and national injury prevention research centers, engaging in team science and multidisciplinary research, and engaging with practitioners, policymakers, and communities impacted by injury and violence.
