Guidelines for faculty and staff

Providing your travel information to the US State Department allows the United States government to better assist its citizens if they find themselves in an emergency situation abroad. It also allows the traveler to receive routine updates from the nearest US embassy or consulate. Register your travel.

If you are employed by the University of Colorado, you qualify for coverage through a blanket international medevac insurance plan, GeoBlue. You must purchase airfare through Christopherson Business Travel to be automatically enrolled in this plan. If you purchase airfare through another provider, you will have to manually enroll.Manually enroll for GeoBlue by following the instructions to print your GeoBlue medevac insurance card and navigating to by "Register online to learn more about your benefits."

Make sure you know all the entry and exit requirements of your destination(s). Some countries require that your passport remains valid for at least six more months and want a certain number of blank visa pages left in your passport. Consult the destination country embassy for information or start with the following Department of State site. The Center for Global Health has successfully utilized Travel Document Systems to ensure visas are complete and timely.

Guidelines for students, residents, and fellows

Students are NOT automatically enrolled in international health insurance or covered for medical evacuation. Please contact the Office of Global Education for information on enrolling in a student-specific HTH Worldwide plan.

Residents and fellows who are paid by the University of Colorado are covered by a blanket policy from GeoBlue. Please refer to the table above (Guidelines for Faculty and Staff), and click on "Enroll in Medevac Insurance through GeoBlue" for more information.

The travel advisory for Guatemala can change at any given moment. Please make sure you check and review the current travel advisory level prior to your trip.

Please exercise caution when traveling outside of the project site. If anything were to happen, the University of Colorado and Guatemala project site are not liable.

Traveling to Guatemala?

Educate yourself about the Zika virus. This disease usually presents with mild symptoms, but has more severe implications for women who are pregnant, or trying to become pregnant.
