The overarching goal of RMPRC School Wellness is to improve the likelihood that persons eligible for SNAP will make healthy food choices within a limited budget and choose physically active lifestyles consistent with the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the USDA food guidance.
We do this by bringing the following wellness activities to participating preschools and elementary schools: 1) implementing classroom-based youth nutrition education and physical activity programming; 2) providing parent engagement opportunities, including 6-week wellness series and one-time family workshops; 3) delivering a texting campaign to parents/caregivers (Text2LiveHealthy - T2LH); and 4) making health-promoting policy, system and environment (PSE) changes in the preschool and school settings.
The cost of our program is covered by grants procured through the Rocky Mountain Prevention Research Center and the Colorado School of Public Health and is at no cost to the individual schools.
