  Dr. Levinson founded the Community Epidemiology & Program Evaluation Group (CEPEG) in 2005. In 2022 he stepped down as CEPEG Director and currently serves as a Clinical Professor. His work during the past three decades has focused on identifying, understanding and reducing disparities in tobacco-related risks and behaviors among sexual and cultural minorities and people with lower socioeconomic status (SES). His scholarship includes more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and more than 100 technical and scientific reports. He has led and contributed to large and small studies in tobacco-use epidemiology and cessation intervention, including smoking cessation interventions among cancer patients, telephone quitline enrollees, Cancer Information Service callers, and HMO patients. He previously represented the University of Colorado Cancer Center on the Guidelines Panel for Smoking Cessation, National Comprehensive Cancer Network; served as a member of the RPIA-N panel, Center for Scientific Research, National Institutes of Health, and served as chair of the Colorado Tobacco Education, Prevention and Cessation Grants Program Review Committee.
