Master's programs


MPH in Community & Behavioral Health*

Program location: CU Anschutz Medical Campus

This two-year master's program will give you the tools you need to work on the front lines of public health, investigating, applying, and evaluating solutions to critical health issues. You'll learn how to assess community needs, develop programs, and alter policies that will promote health, prevent disease, and enhance quality of life. In addition to the public health core areas, you'll take classes in research and evaluation methods, program planning and implementation, community health assessment, and electives of your choice. You also have the option to add an emphasis in global health.

MPH in Community Health Education (evening program)*

Program location: University of Northern Colorado (UNC)

This two-year master's program will give you the tools you need to change policies, environments, attitudes, and behaviors that affect the health of individuals and communities. You'll learn how to focus on prevention through effective health education programs. In addition to the public health core areas, you'll take classes in community health promotion, effective community engagement, program planning and evaluation, and research methods. You’ll also choose from a variety of elective courses so that you can hone in on what matters most to you. And if your interests are bigger than one country can contain, we offer the option to add an emphasis in global public health, where you’ll take courses in global nutrition, tech-based health promotion, and health and human rights.

MPH in Global Health & Health Disparities

Program location: Colorado State University (CSU)

As a student in the MPH in Global Health & Health Disparities program, you’ll learn about the social, economic, and cultural components of health inequities. You’ll gain communication, program planning, and evaluation skills and learn how to apply them in a global context. You’ll have the opportunity to tailor the curriculum to your interests and career goals with elective course options on topics including grant writing, international development, social epidemiology, and the culture of disaster.

MPH in Health Communication

Program location: CSU

Whether we’re at the doctor’s office talking with a nurse, on our couch watching a public service announcement, or searching for mental health resources on the internet, health communication is everywhere. As a student in the MPH in Health Communication program, you’ll learn how to use evidence-based communication strategies to promote health and wellbeing. When you complete this program, you’ll know how to apply science-backed communication tactics to create effective campaigns, influence health policies, and establish yourself as a trusted voice for public health.

MPH in Leadership & Public Health Practice

Program location: Online

This online master's program is designed for working professionals. You'll learn leadership and foundational public health skills that you can apply in health care, government, non-profit and for-profit industries. In addition to the public health core areas, you'll take classes in leadership, research methods, and management, budget, and public health administration. You’ll also choose from a variety of elective courses so that you can hone in on what matters most to you.

MPH in Maternal & Child Health*

Program location: CU Anschutz Medical Campus

This two-year master's program will give you the tools you need to study the determinants, mechanisms, and systems associated with overall health for women, children, and families. You'll learn how to impact policy and manage and evaluate public health programs. In addition to the public health core areas, you'll take classes in maternal and child health policy, epidemiology, and research methods. You’ll also choose from a variety of elective courses so that you can hone in on what matters most to you. And if your interests are bigger than one country can contain, we offer the option to add an emphasis in global public health, where you’ll take courses that give you a global orientation to maternal and child health.

MPH in Physical Activity & Healthy Lifestyles

Program location: CSU

As a student in this program, you’ll learn how to plan, implement, and evaluate programs that encourage healthy eating and physical activity. In addition to learning the foundational disciplines of public health, you’ll also learn about the connection between physical activity and health, health communication strategies, and other specialty topics through electives of your choice. You’ll have the opportunity to take classes on topics such as health psychology, food systems and food security, and community nutrition.

MPH in Population Mental Health & Wellbeing

Program location: Online & CU Anschutz Medical Campus

This two-year master's program will give you the tools you need practice public health in the areas of mental health, substance use, and wellbeing promotion. You'll learn about the etiology of mental disorders and the best practices for addressing these at the population level. In addition to the public health core areas, you'll take classes in mental health, behavioral health systems and policy, and mental health and wellbeing promotion. You’ll also choose from a variety of elective courses so that you can hone in on what matters most to you.

MPH in Public Health Nutrition

Program location: CSU

As a student in this program, you’ll learn how to plan, implement, and evaluate nutrition programs and policies. You’ll learn about the science of nutrition, the epidemiology of nutrition-related diseases, and systems-level approaches to promote healthy behaviors. When you complete this program, you’ll have the skills to pursue a career designing nutrition programs, improving access to healthy foods, developing food and nutrition policies, and more.

DrPH in Community & Behavioral Health

Program location: CU Anschutz Medical Campus

This program is designed to develop public health leaders who are skilled in the development, implementation, and evaluation of theory and evidence-based programs that contribute to health and wellness. Upon completion, you'll earn the highest academic degree possible and have gained experience examining social and behavioral theory and evidence, as well as the research skills to contribute to the body of evidence linking social and behavioral factors to health.

Certificate in American Indian & Alaska Native Health

Program location: Online

In this 15-credit online certificate program, you’ll learn how to implement, evaluate, and research interventions to improve the health and well-being of American Indian and Alaska Native communities. And you'll learn how to harness the lessons learned from American Indian and Alaska Native peoples to positively shape public health interventions, programs, and policy for the benefit of all.

Certificate in Global Public Health

Program location: CU Anschutz Medical Campus

This 15-credit hour program is designed to cultivate a graduate-level, public health perspective of globalization and global health issues, programs, and best practices. You'll learn how to use public health methods to address global public health challenges. In addition to courses in the fundamentals of public health, you’ll study geographic perspectives on global health and select from a range of electives that can make your degree what you want it to be.

Certificate in Latino Health

Program location: CU Anschutz Medical Campus

This 15-credit hour certificate program will help prepare you to contribute to reducing Latino health disparities and work to achieve health equity. You'll learn how to identify important gaps in Latino public health issues and understand how to implement intervention programs. In addition to courses in the fundamentals of public health, you’ll study Latino health and health behavior, and select from a range of electives that can make your degree what you want it to be.

Certificate in Maternal & Child Health

Program location: Online

This 15-credit hour certificate program is designed to help the public health workforce serve the diverse needs of maternal and child health populations.  You'll learn about best and emerging practices for meeting the needs of women, children, and families. Most of the credit hours for this program are electives, so you can choose what will best serve your career working with maternal and child populations.

Certificate in Population Mental Health & Wellbeing

Program location: CU Anschutz Medical Campus

This 15-credit hour certificate program will prepare you to respond to the challenges of preventing and treating mental health and substance use conditions. You'll learn about innovative, population-based approaches to behavioral health issues and about the unique problems that face behavioral health. In addition to courses in the fundamentals of public health, you’ll study population mental health systems, policy, and advocacy, epidemiology, and the social and behavioral factors that underlie health.

Certificate in Public Health Sciences

Program locations: CU Anschutz Medical Campus, CSU, or UNC

This 15-credit hour certificate program will help you enrich your professional background in public health or serve as an entry point for the Master of Public Health. In addition to taking courses in the fundamentals of public health, biostatistics, and epidemiology, you'll have the opportunity to take elective courses to explore what your interests may be.
