The Steven A. Cohen Military Clinic celebrated its one-year anniversary on April 13 with a 5K run, part of a national event to raise awareness about the problem of veteran suicide. The Cohen Clinic opened in March 2018 and is located in Greenwood Village, about 15 minutes from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.
The March session of the Center for Disease Control's Public Health Grand Rounds titled “Preventing Suicidal Behavior in American Indian and Alaska Native Communities: A Health Equity Issue,” featured Spero Manson, Distinguished Professor and Director, Centers for American Indian and Alaska Native Health. It was viewed in 6 foreign countries, 42 states, and the District of Columbia.
“I refuse to become helpless and hopeless … each morning I recite the names of my beloved 13 and they give me the reason to do what I do,” DeAngelis said. “They gave me the reason to walk back into Columbine High School for 15 years after the tragedy.”
Matt Iorio, MD, has found a new professional home at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus after training at many prestigious universities and hospitals across the United States. He specializes in microvascular surgery that involves saving limbs of traumatically injured patients. When he is not treating patients, Iorio studies alternatives to one of the leading causes of addiction in America — opioids.
