SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth (Dana Dabelea, PI; Hamman, Co-Investigator): This is a registry project aimed at identifying trends in diabetes incidence and complications in six U.S. geographic areas.
Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) / Healthy Start 3 (Dana Dabelea, PI, Hamman, Co-investigator): An NIH-wide program to combine observational data on over 80 existing cohorts in the US from birth to age 21. Healthy Start is the local cohort in this effort to explore the influence of environmental exposures on a range of outcomes including obesity, asthma, neurocognition, and positive health.
Arsenic exposure and kidney disease in the San Luis Valley, CO (Kathy James, PI, Hamman, Co-investigator
Arsenic exposure and birth outcomes in the San Luis Valley, CO (Kathy James, PI, Hamman, Co-investigator): These two studies use an historical database built by Dr. James of arsenic in ground water in the SLV as a surrogate of arsenic and other heavy metal exposures. Urine samples have also been assayed for arsenic and other heavy metals. This is linked to data from the SLV Diabetes Study to assess kidney disease, and to Colorado birth certificates and special needs registry data at the Health Department to explore birth outcomes.
The Community Activation for Prevention Study (CAPS) (Jill Litt, PI, Hamman, Co-investigator): A randomized trial of community gardening in Denver aimed at reducing risk factors for cancer and cardiometabolic diseases.
